Jan 15, 2025 | Press Release

For Immediate Release:

For the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council, Inc., the local arm of the international, Catholic charitable organization founded in 1833 by Frédéric Ozanam and boasting more than 100,000 members worldwide, that seeks to alleviate hunger for the most vulnerable among us, 2024 was an exceptional year of growth. In addition to the planned increase in the number of Outreach events around the Mahoning Valley to match the growing need in the community, the Mahoning District Council, Inc. successfully maintained its operation of its Food Pantry, relocated its Dining Hall, and opened a new, 16,000-square foot Thrift Store & Donation Center in Boardman — no small feat indeed, but all part of the ever-evolving mission of serving the community. District President Anne Kravitz said of the relocation of the Dining Hall to Broadway Community Campus at 430 Williamson in Youngstown, God intervened. Were really thrilled by how well this next chapter in the Dining Halls story is coming together and what it could mean to the guests we serve. Were hopeful that the community will continue to support our mission charitably with both donations and volunteer hours as we move forward.” Growth was also evident in the Thrift Store & Donation Center located at 7392 Market Street across from Southern Park Mall. The store finds new homes for donated clothing, furniture & appliances, athletic gear, household items, collectibles, and more, but most importantly, helps to offset some of the costs of the charitable work of the organization, making the monetary donations the Society receives stretch that much further. Individuals or corporate sponsors who would like to get involved as a volunteer or volunteer teams or wishing to make a donation can reach the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council, Inc. at info@svdpmahoning.org, by calling the Food Pantry at 330-746-1128, or by visiting on the web at MahoningSVdP.org.
