Role Overview
Compensation – Pay Rate: $17.00-$18.00 per hour.
The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store Donation Lead Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role. This position is responsible for overseeing daily intake, sorting, and pricing of community goods while guiding staff and volunteers. Understanding you reserve the right to decline any donor’s items that are not sellable or profitable to the mission.
Job Summary
The Donation Lead Supervisor ensures a smooth production pipeline from the back-door loading to the retail sales floor. You will lead by example to maximize work production and morale. This role maximizes revenue for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul by ensuring merchandising, efficient processing, and compliance with the organization’s faith-based, community-focused mission and values.
Core Responsibilities
- Donation & Drop-off Management: Oversee the back-door intake station, greet donors, safely unload vehicles, and issue tax receipts.
- Production & Sorting: Supervise the processing of goods; separate sellable items from recycling, mission truck bound or garbage based on strict safety criteria.
- Pricing Strategy: Inspect item brands, condition, and market demand to assign appropriate, competitive prices to hard and soft goods.
- Team Supervision: Assign daily tasks, schedule routines, & cross-train paid associates.
- Floor Collaboration: Coordinate with management to stock the sales floor, rotate stale inventory, and maintain neat visual merchandising displays.
- Communication: Answer calls and messages regarding pick ups and deliveries from donors, customers and church conferences.
- Mobility: Able to drive the organization’s 20 foot Peterbilt truck if situations arise for pick ups, deliveries or assisting the pantry or dining hall.
- Scheduling: Request photos of items to be donated for pick up prior to scheduling a pick up to ensure items are sellable. Coordinate with the customers for delivery times and days.
Job Requirements & Physical Demands
- Experience: Typically requires 1–3 years of retail supervisory experience, ideally within a high-volume thrift or non-profit environment.
- Communication: Strong English verbal skills to de-escalate customer or donor concerns with professional composure.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to regularly stand, bend, stoop, and lift or carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be drug free – Random testing done
- Schedule Flexibility: Open availability to work a rotating schedule if needed that could include a Saturday shift.
- Transportation: a Valid Driver’s License, CDL preferred
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Mid-level assistant manager or supervisory experience preferred.
- Core Skills: Strong organization, time management, and spoken communication.
- Product Knowledge: Ability to spot valuable merchandise and research value.
